As with my previous mixtapes, I’ll breakdown some of the ideas & concepts behind the creation of Excitor 2 “E2″.
The original Excitor, the uptempo vibe is consistent throughout the entire mix. 2 is no different. This time, there was more focus on bringing in more old school elements & using more rare accapella’s & instruments from my productions. As you know, the common safe djs play the same common
mashups and usually the same hits, in the same sequence heard on radio mixshows & in all the clubs. Too many sound the same and really quite boring. Don’t get me wrong, I did incorporate a few “can’t miss” dance hits but the overall concept stay true: Freestyle vibe meets “the party rock” electro groove. There are few Hip-hop, R&B tracks that fit the “uptempo” sequences and bring balance to the overall feel.
The rollercoaster format of “mashup/blend” then regular “song” is sustained throughout to keep the listeners guessing whats coming next. I decided to incorporate a good amount of my remix/productions in E2 & bring some flavor to the some current hits. Digging deep into the archives to resurrect a few instrumentals not found anywhere. Overall, not all song selections are your top tier hits but they do serve the creative purpose in the ideas I had for E2. Example: the “Lover Girl” feat. Lil Jon – Meg. Who can imagine Lil Jon chants over an 80s Freestyle jam. Enjoy and thanks for your support.

Yes, the party mixtape returns this June 15th with Excitor 2. As with the Excitor (released Oct 2009) this mixtape hallmarks an array of uptempo mashups & non-stop WOWness. Diggin’ deep into the archives for this one.  Be sure to be on the look out for the teaser video. Thank you again for all the support.

Basically, I wanted to create an mix that was “car-blasting” friendly. Sounds weird but With so many mixtapes and compilations I’ve done in the past, I always had to keep it radio friendly or more towards the “female” listening audience. Feedback from listeners was for the tracks to be more “ghetto” or “harder”. My approach was to dive into that theme but still keep a good balance of old school & new school slaps. This is one you don’t have to “skip” tracks.

Just like the previous “Excitor” uptempo mixtape, this one is explicit 80% of the way. The tempo starts slow around 65 BPM and gradually works its way up to 120 BPM. Stays there for a few tracks, then it goes back down around 84 BPM to close it out.

The choice of tracks were based on whats vibin’ ”hot” right now & what will work for tomorrow. Time & time again, you’ll hear some tracks that, no matter what, still makes your head bob. That was the goal, using old & new elements. The Bay Area tracks are well represented as are classic “car bumpin” joints that are timeless. A few stylized mashups keep the listener on edge as some of the top MCs flow onto some “WHOA, no way he played that” beats.

Overall, Its a solid mix that took a number of studio sessions to complete. For any production mix, you have to constantly review, change and alter it as you progress. This is no exception.
The final product is what you guys enjoy and expect nothing less on “Volume 5″. (sometime late 2010).

Slam

The controversy surrounding Guru’s hospitalization, visitation rights, and recovery with present musical partner Solar led to limited information being released to press. What is known is that the 43 year-old Guru had suffered a heart attack, gone into a coma, and despite reports of strong recovery, ultimately lost his battle with what has now been revealed as cancer.

“The world has lost one of the best emcees and Hip Hop icons of all-time,” said Guru’s producer Solar in a statement confirming Guru’s death. “Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius.” The producer referred to Guru as his “loyal best friend, partner and brother” additionally in the statement.

In a letter released to fans, Guru (who is said by publicists to have written the statement) acknowledged being survived by his son. The emcee also acknowledged his non-profit charity foundation, Each One Counts. “I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting,” reportedly wrote Guru.

Born and raised in the Boston area, Guru relocated to Brooklyn in the late ’80s, where Gang Starr released its first singles with 45 King as producer. By 1988, the group evolved as a duo with Premier, and released their 1989 full-length debut No More Mr. Nice Guy on Wild Pitch Records. The duo would go on to release classic albums on Chrysalis/Virgin/EMI, such as 1994’s Hard To Earn and 1998’s Moment Of Truth. Gang Starr’s last album, 2003’s The Ownerz featured Jadakiss, Fat Joe and longtime affiliate Freddie Foxxx. The platinum group toured the world and released several greatest hits collections, most notably Full Clip: A Decade Of Gang Starr in 1999. The duo announced their split in 2004, reportedly due to creative and personal differences.

As a solo artist, Guru released four volumes of Jazzmatazz, Jazz-inspired recordings with legendary genre artists such as Donald Byrd and Roy Ayers. Guru has launched two labels in his career, Ill Kid Records and 7Grand, where he and production partner Solar worked alongside artists such as Talib Kweli, Damian Marley and Jean Grae.
